Spring Break fun! Events and activities in Surrey & White Rock

Spring Break is almost here! And with two whole weeks off, there are lots of fun, family-friendly and free activities and events to enjoy! Here’s a roundup of some of the things happening in Surrey and White Rock over the next few weeks!
- Explore the woods, experience new animals and learn about Surrey Parks! Featuring presentations by the Surrey Youth Stewardship Squad, SHaRP, Parks Canada and Dr. Recycle, with a special guest presentation by the Northern Spotted Owl Breeding Program on March 18.
- A celebration of Celtic culture! Join the Museum of Surrey for an afternoon filled with live music, dancing, cultural displays and hands-on activities. Features live performances by the Steel School of Irish Dance, Langley Community Music School Fiddlers, and harp and guitar duo Leanne & Connor Page.
- Learn about BEES!, hear important tales at the Surrey Stories Gallery, and explore Indigenous history with the Indigenous Hall & Community Treasures.
- The JUNO Awards are just a few weeks away but the festivities are kicking off with a free one-day music festival! More than 30 artists across six stages will perform, including two-time JUNO-nominated country star Tyler Joe Miller, Surrey artists and South Asian Recording of the Year nominees Chani Nattan and Inderpal Moga, legendary Punjabi music figure Sarbjit Cheema, award-winning Mohawk singer-songwriter Shawnee Kish, indie pop sisters Fionn and Latin punk fusion group Empanadas Illegales.
- Volunteer in parks with other youth to help restore, enhance and grow Surrey’s urban forest! The SYSS is always looking for volunteers to help remove invasive plants, plant trees and shrubs, clean up litter and enhance habitat within Surrey parks.
- Enjoy a storytime session in the outdoors at Green Timbers Park! Registration ahead of time is recommended, appropriate for ages 2 to 5 with parent or guardian attendance required.
- Everyone is welcome to drop-in at Maple Green Park (8958 150th St.) to plant trees and shrubs! Tools and training will be provided. Sturdy, closed-toe shoes are recommended, and be prepared to get dirty.
- Come decorate a tote bag and make personalized buttons! All supplies provided. For ages 12 to 18 at the Fleetwood Branch of Surrey Libraries.
- Drop into the Newton Branch of Surrey Libraries for an afternoon of D&D! Meet other players and play one of our adventures! For ages 12 to 18.
- Come talk about books, play games and make new friends! For ages nine to 10 at the Ocean Park Branch of Surrey Libraries.
- Make potions in mini bottles! All supplies provided. For ages 12 to 18 at the Ocean Park Branch of Surrey Libraries.
- Learn about the owls in your neighbourhood! Presented by Metro Vancouver Regional Parks, this presentation will talk about how to find owls, with real specimens and an interactive presentation. For ages five to 12 at the City Centre Branch of Surrey Libraries.
- Join us for nature-themed activities exploring science, technology, engineering, art and math. All supplies provided. For ages five to eight at the Strawberry Hill Branch of Surrey Libraries.
- Learn coding basics while playing with robots! All skill levels are welcome, no previous experience is required. For Grade 2 to 4 students at the Strawberry Hill Branch of Surrey Libraries.
- Join us for sensory-friendly stories and songs in a welcoming and adaptive sensory environment. This storytime is for those who are on the autism/ADHD spectrum or have other sensory processing needs. Sensory toys, puzzles, colouring pages, and headphones will be available. For children of all ages and their caregivers at the Ocean Park Branch of Surrey Libraries. After a 30-minute storytime, there'll be playtime for children and social time for caregivers.
- Drop in and create art at the White Rock Library. Supplies are provided. A parent or caregiver must accompany children under 10 years old.
- Drop by the White Rock Library for a new STEAM challenge! Suitable for kids and teens.
- Pull up a seat at your local library and explore amazing forces and motion with Science World on the Road! Explore fascinating forces such as gravity, momentum, friction and lift. Learn about the science behind spinning, falling and flying with exciting demonstrations that Science World is best known for. This presentation is for all ages.
- Love LEGO? We provide the LEGO, you bring your imagination! Come play, experiment and create. LEGO Club is a fun afternoon program for all.
- There’s something going on almost every day at the Newton Youth Hub! Monday to Friday through the end of the month, participate in art, cooking and games in Newton!
- City Centre has tons of activities too! Board games, dinner night, a hiking outing and UNO! Hit ‘em with the reverse or make them draw four! Open to all youth ages 13 to 18.
- Open to all youth 13 to 18 who identify as part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and allies! Meet at City Centre Youth Hub (10453 Whalley Blvd.) at 5 p.m. Sign up .
- Hike a scenic trail in Belcarra! Meet at the City Centre Youth Hub for 1 p.m.
